Landscape Maintenance

Twin Waters was developed with a high standard of public landscape infrastructure.  The Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC) is now responsible for the maintenance of public landscape infrastructure in Twin Waters  A unique arrangement was negotiated between the community and the Council to ensure that the high standards established by the developer would be maintained after the developer left the area.

Following extensive consultations and negotiations with community representatives, the Council introduced a Special Benefit Levy for ratepayers at Twin Waters to be used to fund a higher standard of landscape maintenance at Twin Waters than applies generally across the Shire.  This Levy is included with rate notices to all property owners and, by law, all of the funds raised from this Levy must be spent on additional landscape maintenance at Twin Waters.  (For the 2008 / 2009 financial year, the Special Benefit Levy is $98 per property.)

The unique Twin Waters maintenance arrangements are supported by a Charter negotiated with the Council and regular meetings of the Twin Waters Maintenance Reference Group are held to review performance and discuss any issues that have arisen.  The arrangement, which was initially established in 2005, has worked well.  Other recently developed master-planned  communities have asked for information so that they can adopt similar arrangements.
